PickTools.net provides browser-based classroom tools for teachers and classroom activity organizers. The current tools are designed to work without user accounts, cloud sync, student logins, payment features, or a backend classroom database.

This policy explains how the classroom tools use local browser storage, how basic technical requests may be handled when the site is loaded, and how analytics or advertising technologies may be used. It is written to describe the current website as plainly as possible.

Information Stored in Your Browser

PickTools.net uses localStorage and sessionStorage to save only the data needed for the classroom tools to work in the current browser. This may include class rosters, the selected roster, picked history, group results or group settings, timer settings, recent timer durations, and theme preference.

This local data stays tied to the browser and device where it was created. If you use another browser, another device, private browsing, or a cleared browser profile, the saved information may not be available.

How the Classroom Tools Use Local Data

The Random Student Picker and Random Group Generator share some classroom data so a saved roster can be used by both tools. Picked history may be used by the picker and, when selected, by the group generator to exclude students who have already been picked in the current round.

The Classroom Timer is separate from student rosters. It stores timer-related settings such as mode, duration, sound preference, warning preference, recent durations, and visual theme, but it does not need or read student names.

No Account Required

The current site does not ask teachers or students to create accounts. It does not provide user profiles, class accounts, payment accounts, or a cloud dashboard. The classroom tool data is not designed to be uploaded to a backend database.

Hosting and Basic Technical Requests

Like most websites, PickTools.net is served through a hosting platform that may process basic technical requests when pages are loaded. Those requests may involve information such as IP address, browser type, device information, requested URL, security logs, and timing information needed to deliver and protect the site.

The classroom tools themselves are built so rosters, picked history, group settings, and timer settings can run locally in the browser rather than through a classroom database.

Google Analytics

PickTools.net uses Google Analytics 4 to understand website traffic and basic usage patterns. Google Analytics may collect technical and usage information such as page visits, visit time, browser, device type, operating system, approximate region, referring page, and interactions with the website.

PickTools.net does not intentionally send names, email addresses, student rosters, or other directly identifying personal information to Google through Analytics. Google may use cookies or similar technologies to process analytics data, and that data is handled by Google according to its privacy policy and Google Analytics terms.

You can limit cookies through your browser settings. You can also use the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on if you want to prevent Google Analytics from using your browser data on websites that support it.

Google AdSense and Advertising

PickTools.net may use Google AdSense to display advertising. If advertising is enabled, Google and its advertising partners may use cookies, local storage, web beacons, IP addresses, or similar technologies to deliver, measure, and personalize ads where permitted.

These technologies may process information such as browser and device information, approximate location, page visits, ad interactions, and referral information. PickTools.net does not directly provide Google with student rosters, names, email addresses, or other information users enter into the classroom tools for advertising purposes.

Users may manage or opt out of personalized advertising through Google Ads Settings. Third-party vendors and ad networks may also use cookies where enabled, and users may review opt-out options through an industry opt-out resource such as AboutAds. Google processes advertising data under its own privacy policy and advertising terms.

How to Delete Local Data

You can delete locally saved classroom data by clearing site data for PickTools.net in your browser settings. You can also use browser controls that clear localStorage and sessionStorage for the site. After that, saved rosters, picked history, group results, timer settings, and theme preferences may no longer be available.

Private Browsing and Different Devices

Private browsing modes often limit or remove local data when the session ends. Data also does not automatically move between devices or browsers. If you need the same roster on another device, you may need to enter or paste the class list again.

Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated if the site changes how its tools work or how data is handled. Any future changes should continue to describe the actual behavior of the classroom tools in clear language.
